Lawn Scarification
Scarifying is a process of removing thatch (dead grass) and moss from
your lawn, if left it can suffocate the grass, stopping air and
nutrients from getting to the roots. We recommend all lawns are scarified yearly.

Why does thatch/moss build up?
Thatch (dead grass stems) and moss builds up naturally over time however, it can stop air circulation and nutrients getting to the roots, that is crucial to a healthy lawn.
Lawn scarification is a very important process to fight against thatch and
moss. The lack of oxygen in your lawn can encourage moss to grow, raking the thatch out will help to circulate the air, reducing the moss growth.
Scarify will not take all the surface thatch out as this would signically reduce
the grass left and could be more harmful.
The benefits of scarifying includes:
-
nutrients can reach the grass roots
-
helps prevent disease
-
improves grass growth and density
-
helps air circulation

When to scarify?
Generally the best time to scarify is in Spring and Autum. It can take the grass awhile to recover, encouraging new growth, therefore we avoid the summer months.
How often to scarify?
We recommend scarifying yearly to reduce the impact thatch and moss has on your lawn and to
stop to much build up.
